American architectural historians pronounced the style passé and sent it, by academic fiat, into oblivion at the mid-nineteenth-century mark. Here in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, however, it lives on, in defiance of the masquerade of expertise, as a contemporary bank on Paxton Street, stoutly conveying assurances of financial confidence.
